Weds 23rd / Thurs 24th - Preparing for the weekend

Wednesday

Gerry has once again produced a great set of photos.

Following the successful outing for the Weed Spraying wagon (as reported in Roger's posting on Monday 21st), it was time to put the wagon to bed for the winter. Rex and Bob dismantle the delicate spraying apparatus ready for storage.

Bob then covers the spraying unit. The main
tarpaulins were put all round to keep out the weather and the wagon shunted into one of the south sidings.

The underwindow repairs have now moved round to the Malvern side of TSO 4867. Nick measures up for the required repair.

Nick cuts out the replacement piece.

Now welding it in place.

Inside 4867 Simon and Neil continue the floor repairs, currently taking place in the north compartment.

Ken is preparing the north end of the coach ready for reinstating the corridor connection.

Servicing part of the spring unit.

Thursday

A very different day with most of the concentration on preparing the Works for the Model Railway weekend.

Most of the signwriting templates stuck on the Malvern wall of the Paintshop had become curled and dusty, and as such have been discarded. Phil vacs the wall to remove any dust.

Jeff similarly vacs the Cotswold wall with a much extended pipe.

Going out to the Barn to find that SO 4798 has been moved to one of the sidings.

Phil mutters something as he returns inside while the others watch the next moves.

With TSO 4406 now being moved and Alan temporarily out of work, he does a quick sweep of the vacant jack road.

Next into the jack road is the Inspection Saloon with 4406 still attached.

The bogie link is now attached to the back of the 03.

Meanwhile Stu fires up the other 03 which is in the Works siding as it is also needed.

Ian pulls out the bogie that has been serviced on the Barn through road.

4867 is now pulled out of the Workshop.

Next is the Mink D, and are we glad that it is going outside at last and the roller can be let down after many months of being in the raised position.

Finally SK 25451 is pulled out of the Paintshop and into its temporary new home in the Workshop. The primers table has been transferred there and a temporary table set up for the sandpaper rolls and fillers, and the brush swilling bin and rag box.

Phil now vacs the centre section of the Paintshop floor, the outer sections having already been done. The remaining tables have been covered over, one of them with an old curtain to act as a drinks table for the displays team.

Now on to other work.

Rex sorts out internal window sections for 4867.⁰

Dave is back on old paint removal on the Malvern side of TSO 3961.

With 4406 now temporarily on the jack road, Alan returns to his metalwork repairs.

Richards 1 and 2 are removing both batteries from under the Inspection Saloon.

Various circumstances prevented me from publishing this post on Friday. Apologies that it is late.

Hopefully the Model Railway weekend has been successful. Two of our members are displaying - John Squires with his Welsh Branch Line and Robert with two dioramas.

Comments

  1. It's good that the roller door can now be let down, with winter on the way - but the many months of being raised were not necessarily bad, over _this_ simmer - though perhaps the thing would have been to open it at night, and then close it in the morning, to trap cool air inside!

The observation about how the signwriting templates stuck on the wall of the Paintshop had become curled and dusty made me realise how 'lived in' the carriage works have become - as if they'd been in that use for many decades! But of course they are not that old! How ever did you all make out before the GWSR had them?!
