Thursday 18th - 1675 keeps on giving

This week is mostly about 1675, the race is on to get it operational which is much easier said the done. With a huge project like this problems can and do come up.

This week was put aside to make provision for strengthening the kitchen floor, a good idea as now we know the weight of each new kitchen piece, we could design accordingly.

On Wednesday Rex and Bryan set about the design and manufacture of extra sections.

I was not in on Wednesday but I know Chris was engaged in stripping down the north end of 13326 ready for the new buffer plate and crash pillars ( sorry no photos ).

The first new floor support, complete with spacers and primed.

The first pieces were trial fitted, and with an intricate set of all thread bolts, nuts and washers it started going together.

Gerry is in the corridor lining up the bolt holes.

Bryan carefully drills holes in the wood spacers.

Gerry inserts bolts ready for the carpenters.

When everyone was happy, I fully welded each new section in place.

That was the end of applying heat, working overtime we then reassembled all nuts and bolts etc, the floor can now be put back permanently .

Unfortunately no pictures, but the painting team spent their day flatting and prepping the Santa Coach. I promise to get photos next week.

John and Stuart, worked on 1675s bogies in the barn, I am lead to believe they are now ready to go back under and when that happens ride height adjustments can take place.

Thanks to Gerry for the photos.
