Tuesday 11th - A quiet day

A somewhat quiet day with just seven of us in. The only real sounds were the occasional noise from the Workshop and in the Paintshop the banging shut of a paint tin lid.

Tuesday was another gorgeous Autumn day, so the striking scene with P&O rapidly approaching and surmounted by the blue sky just begged to be taken.

Maurice certainly had the best of the day, continuing the top coating of the internal frame and cross-sections of the Macaw bolster wagon.

Similarly Dave Hancox, tidying up NBA 94462 which is a very useful storage vehicle.

These vehicles were converted from Mk1 BG's with sealed gangways, new floors, roller shutter doors and tail lights. They were able to run at 100mph and known as Super BGs.

On to progress with CK 16221, and I am very pleased to show the progress on the Malvern side of the coach, which as Alex stated in Saturday's posting, is well behind the other side. Stu carried on from where had George left off on Saturday.

Just prior to our afternoon break, the madder undercoat had gone even further than this later photo, at which time Stu had to leave. We should be able to complete this on Thursday, and depending on who is in, begin top coating. The south end of the Cotswold side still needs to be completed.

The final bit of line taping at the north end. That wire hanging from the gutter is ideal for hanging the roll of tape while moving the steps to the next position.

In the meantime Ian started on the north end buffer beam and adjacent bits, completed that and then moved to the south end, completing that too.

The almost finished north end, with just the communication cord mechanism to put back together and paint (bar the links, of course!).

The corridor end sliders have been removed from their temporary home ready for the laying of the marmoleum, and in the first class compartments, carpet. This is now scheduled to begin on Saturday with the screeding going down. The marmoleum and carpet will go down on Tuesday/Wednesday. So, why not clean up the sliding door tracks? We should do this more often!

Keith had a field day with quite a variety of things to paint and varnish, which included battery box covers and a compartment door from 16221, corridor connection bits from RBr 1675, and scotches for PWay's road/rail vehicle in yellow. I expect I have missed out something. We'd be lost without these trestles; there is often so much to paint and varnish we frequently expand to the top end of the Paintshop.

The latest cleaned up door for 1675 is turned over and the remaining bits given a coat of light grey. The Door Team now have a nice clean door to rebuild and, when eventually mounted on the coach, the Painting Team have a nice clean rebuilt door to paint.

During the morning and early afternoon Robert also enjoyed the open air, once again helping to run another Evacuation Experience day for more school parties. Then back to the Woodwork shop and making use of scrap hardwood by creating very useful inserts that can be used in such things as doors.

Once again, demonstrating the skills of our Woodwork Team, this clock was made for Robert by David D.

A nice afternoon ride to Toddington and Broadway in the DMU. Only a few weeks left now before the current season ends with the Mixed Traction Gala, so better grab a ride soon! Santa Specials begin at the end of November and then the post Christmas- New Year period for the final spree.
