Weds 12th/Thurs 13th - It's all looking good

Bet we have had that title before!

Two more busy days,  but not so many in with holidays beginning to take effect.

As with last week, many thanks to Gerry for all the photos on Wednesday.

Wednesday

Beginning the day with Simon who is now well into the internal rebuild of the north vestibule on FK 13326.

At the south end Chris refits the end section of gutter on the Cotswold side, while Ken has been doing a great job with all the wood supports for the corridor connection now in place .............

........... and is now at the north end of the Workshop where he is cleaning up the back of the corridor connection.

Steve working inside the Malvern side doorway at the north end of 13326.

Into the Door/Woodwork shop where Trevor is modifying a threshold strip so that it will fit. These vary in size and frustratingly the one taken off is often ill fitting to start with. I guess BR just made use of whatever was at hand. Occasionally our stock of spares will provide a more suitable one.

Ben looks like he is having more luck with his threshold strip in 1675's servery doorway, although either it may have similarly been adjusted, or the beading at the base of the doorway trimmed so that the strip fits underneath.

Just one half of the Chuckle Brothers in today with Colin carefully shaping some wood on the bandsaw.

Laura and John certainly aren't hanging about applying the new Snapdragon moquette, with a large seat cushion looking almost ready.

The first single seat back and cushion.

Thursday

On now to the next day, and very noticeably quiet in the Workshop and Barn.

[Photo : Paul]  Geoff, Roger and Alan (the Indoor Gang) are on cleaning duties in Rake 3 today in preparation for the Beer Festival taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The three worked really hard, cleaning all the windows and tables throughout the entire rake.

[Photo : Paul]  Paul finished the vaccing started by Dennis last week, and then washed all the floors.

Well done team, an excellent day's work!

Having seen Gerry's photos on Wednesday evening, I couldn't wait to see for myself what Laura and John had done with the new moquette. And wow!

Tuesday's efforts with 1675 continued with Maurice cleaning up and undercoating the two sliding kitchen and pantry doors.

Ian swapped his normal Dirty Gang hat and became one of the Painting and Prep team, initially sanding parts of the new oak interior where needed.

Another job is to coat in preservative some of the wood to be used to support the heating covers in the saloon and corridor. There will be more to come.

Maurice was undercoating wood that will also be used for the heating covers, but this will be visible so it will be painted in Executive Light Grey in sympathy with the painted areas throughout 1675.

Bob worked on the Cotswold side kitchen doors, adding filler to the frame where needed. I was doing similar work on the Malvern side centre door and the tops of some of the window frames.

It was lovely to see Nicole back, Richard I's granddaughter. Her outside commitments mean that her attendance has to be limited, but she is very keen to attend when she can and learn all about our electrical work. We need more younger members in C&W.

Richard said he and Nicole were working on new electrics for the Malvern side battery box under BCK 21272. So after a crawl under the coach to reach them I was able to get some photos.

I had to lie on my back to take the next three photos. Richard is a very good teacher and let Nicole do the work while he gave instructions.

Richard making some adjustments before letting Nicole take over again.

Phil meanwhile was sorting out the insides of the box.

Alex cleaned up the inside of the corridor connection that Ken is preparing for the south end of 13326. Finally a coat of black MIO over the inside to protect from further corrosion.

A load of new planks for the MICA van are being primed by Maurice, the doors for 1675 now neatly stacked against the wall.

Talking of freight vehicles, there was a lot of shunting going on outside, with Neil and Stu in turn doing both the driving and acting as shunter.

On going outside I discovered we had the joy of a freight train, albeit with some rather decrepit participants as well as restored examples. Hence lots of creaking, groaning and squealing. Still great to see though.

The aim of the exercise was to extract the blue wagon that was needed at Toddington.

Phil, Paul and Roger watching the action.

The Indoor Gang, Paul and Alex discuss what's going on. Good excuse for a relax; I was tempted to join them but other jobs needed doing.
