Tuesday 12th - Mainly the peripherals
Just a small number in today and so not many photos.
It was still warm but at times with quite a bit of rain, so any outside work was out of the question.
The very well made skylight frames for Tool Van 92 had been previously coated in linseed oil and could now be primed ready for painting by Richard.
Richard had very kindly attended on Sunday to give a tour of C&W to the first of three groups of visitors associated with the Cheltenham Heritage Open Days. A second group attended today and I gave them a tour. They were a very nice group, asking lots of questions and showing a lot of interest in all aspects of our work. The final tour is scheduled for Thursday.
Ian and Maurice, and Pam later on, went round Tool Van 92 black glossing the sole bar, underframe, headstocks and buffers.
Maurice re-whitened the ends of the brake handles.
Ian undercoated the Malvern side steps in dark grey.
Pam removes the dust from the previously painted sole bar on Tool Van 4.
The general view down the Paintshop with the oiled bodywork of 92 contrasting with the almost complete 4.
Dave dug another compartment door out of TK 24006 for sanding down prior to re-varnishing.
Some pieces removed from the doors being sanded.
Ainsley drills out the countersinks on the new skin on this final quarterdoor for RBr 1675.Robert attaches the upper part of one of the liners for the Malvern side emergency door.
Alan gives the left hand pair of acrow props a coat of yellow gloss. The right hand pair were earlier sanded and painted in undercoat white.
Towards the end of the day the second pair were dry enough to coat in yellow. Pam meanwhile tackles the final pair, initially giving them a light sand before undercoating in white.
Pam also finished off the blacking of the DA valves.
Ending on a light-hearted note, Pam gives a brief dancing lesson to Ian. In her home town of Brackley Pam has co-run a dance school for very many years, and although that has basically finished, she still gives private lessons. She learnt the basics of her Latin dancing from none other than Strictly's Shirley Ballas.
Lovely blog. Those skylights are a super job done..
