Wednesday 29th - Getting close

The blog title refers to the change around of vehicles in a couple of weeks. This means we have a number of jobs to get finished, so here goes.

In the upholstery 'shop Jenny is taking a photo of an item which I think is about to be re-covered. With digital technology it makes life so much easier having a photo to draw back on.

Meanwhile in The Barn Bob is removing another floor bearer, these are proving a bit tricky in the server area. Good progress is being made and its only June / July.

Bryan is making and fitting new vertical sections, which are then fully welded to the new cross bearers. We remove any corroded section irrespective of its length, and replace with new.

Rex is tack welding into position a floor bearer, once we are happy with measurements and fit everything is fully welded.

Colin looking somewhat surprised, seen here in 16221 carrying out yet more panel work. It will look fantastic when its finished.

Geoff is giving some valuable advice to Trevor, in the use of a mallet and wood chisel.

Phil is repairing an extension lead, where would we be without him.

Ah the bubble car is 'Getting Close', Dave is touching up final areas ..... it looks amazing.

For my sins, I spent the day in welding various bits on the next TOAD. It is normally situated at Winchcombe and was in need of some TLC. It has been mostly re-painted and looks so much better. I am told it is used as a store by 'The Friends of Winchcombe Station'.

As I said Getting Close, just a bit closer now.

  1. I am in awe of your attention to detail in restoring the various vehicles, superb! Having been involved with such projects myself, I know what it takes. However, one thing that niggles me is, why does the railway insist on spoiling the authenticity of the coaches with the continued use of the GWSR logo, which I have to say devalues all the good work that's been done? Surely the British Railways roundel would attract more photo charters, etc. Keep up the good work.
