Wednesday 6th/Thursday 7th - Busy busy!

So busy in fact that on neither day did I manage to capture everything going on. So just a flavour of what was happening.

Wednesday

Wednesday is woodwork day; on the left it looks like the doors for the Mink are getting some attention while on the right Des is fettling some blocks of wood for the latest door:

Geoff and Dave meanwhile were getting to grips with what was required in CK 16221:

There was some puzzling over the profile of 34929 today with the big gauge got out. Trevor, Ainsley and Rod were all scratching their heads over it at various points in the day:

Once again it seems this coach is anything but the right shape.

Upstairs in upholstery there was a cheerful atmosphere as the last few bits for TSO 5042 were being worked on, hurrah!

Next up is the seats for the bubble car apparently.

On the mezzanine Steve was drilling some heat sinks for some electrical gubbins:

and the seemingly never ending activity of PAT testing continues, we remarked it must be a bit like the forth bridge with so many power tools, extension leads etc. in C&W!

Progress on the Queen Mary was also good, Pat sanded down the last of the interior walls:

And then moved on to sanding the first half of the ceiling, while David cleaned and primed the last section of solebar:

After sorting out the top wooden rail on the other side continuing Tuesday's work, I went inside and primed the exposed planking

Thursday

Another brake van ride jolly morning of important railway work for me with another rail delivery train. This time we had the added fun of fitting between service trains.

The maroon set stabled in the North siding gives quite a good double track effect looking back:

It wasn't a large load today, 3 short lengths of rail to drop at various locations ready for P'way:

We crossed the DMU at Toddington:

And Dinmore at Cheltenham:

Where we arrived on P2 to then reshuffle the train down at Hunting Butts to return:

And back through the tunnel:

Back to Winchcombe to see what was going on, Nick and the gang had fitted the first 2 lamp brackets which was great news. I didn't need any encouraging to test fit a lamp on one:

The small patch repair on the crescent section of metal at the top has rather grown too, no half measures here.

In the afternoon they had to move on to make some brackets for 16221 as this will enable more work to continue on the wood panelling. Bent up on the fly press:

And then fitted in place:

John was making some more framing for storing... Stuff? Sorry, can't remember what, but it's taking shape behind him anyway:

Today's labours on the Queen Mary were carried out by Phil, who did a fantastic job cleaning up most of the roof ready for painting:

And Jeff, who undercoated the Malvern side solebar:

Later on I joined in and undercoated the lower green panels on both sides, but typically forgot to take a picture, whoops!

Comments

  1. Will the Queen Mary be ready for the Gala in November ? The speed of work on this brake van is unbelievable , would it be too much to expect to see the Mink Van as well ?

Thanks for such a good blog every week , john M.
