Saturday 2nd - The Return of the Messroom

 The headline news for the day was that with the grim weather, tea breaks on our chairs out the end of the barn was officially over, and we properly returned to our mess room for the first time since before the pandemic. It was nice to be back, John seemed particularly excited!

I couldn't stay long as I had to fill in for a TTI vacancy in the afternoon (getting absolutely drenched in the process!) so apologies, I didn't capture everything going on today.

Paul carried on the cleanup of the solebar on the Queen Mary, and was joined by Steve who removed the last of the rotten wood we're ditching, now that we sort of have a plan for what we're doing with it!

Martin found a few more bits ready for first gloss on 34929:

While once again the doors were putting up a battle, Chris and Robert continuing the war to get them right:

John was attaching the fabric sleeves to the metal brackets he'd made earlier to make the protective sleeves for vacuum pistons, much cheaper making our own:

In the woodwork shop the Mink doors are looking impressive, very nice mortices and tenons there guys!

Ken set about taking off the useful bits from some internal doors he'd picked up from Cranmore as part of a job lot of spare bits and pieces last week:

The two Andys were both to be found lying under Dogfish, I wasn't entirely sure if they were looking at draw hooks or vacuum cylinders today, but I'm fairly sure the Dogfish are now ready to be shunted out at a convenient moment;

Lastly another momentous picture to finish with, Jenny and John are on the last seat back for TSO 5042, hurrah!

There's just a couple more seat cushions to do then that's that coach completely renewed, then it's on to the bubble car...

  1. Well done on the work on the QM, 34929 and the Mink. Also all the other myriad of jobs that go on in C&W.
    Hope you dried out well Alex.
    Regards, Paul.
