Monday 12th - A Drizzly Day

Bit of drizzle today, which was a nuisance as I had one job I wanted to do on the outside, after putting the vac through "Mary".

One of the things that keeps annoying me (and the rest of the team) is the outside of the windows. The outside team do a great job washing the sides down but often the windows retain marks. Brake dust, smoke, diesel, I don't know but it is ingrained somehow. One solution is to use the special cutting paste we have but that is VERY hard work. So I decided as an experiment to try a spray glass cleaner I use at home (our usual train brand is good inside but not so good outside. You get what you pay for!) The test windows are shown below. Seemed an improvement and gave a smooth surface so that is promising. And much less effort to use. But as by now it was raining more trials will be need to be done next week.

A small trophy this week. A couple of very sticky blobs removed from a radiator cover under a table. The table was cleaned afterwards!

And after mopping this is the happy smile of satisfaction.

Sorry Val! Husband Roger is emptying the bucket. The water was very dirty but the camera did not show it.

It was a good turnout today now that holiday season is over. Chris, David, Greg, Jane, John M, Lynn, Nick, Nigel, Peter, Steve, Tim and Roger C and Val you see above.

This last weekend was Mixed Traction Event and my object for the day was to go inside Broadway Signal Box, as they were giving conducted tours. Very good it was too. Here are the pics. I have never been on platform 2 here so it was a real treat.

Has anybody noticed they change the indicator blind to the correct destination?. Nice touch.

  1. I see you're applying the scientific method to the glass cleaner (an experiment). Excellent!

  2. BR used "Exmover" which is Oxyalic Acid, very good at removing rust stains, but must be rinsed properly.
