Monday 9th - Swaparoo

Rake 1 has had TSO 5023 inserted as carriage "B" while the previous one has gone in for repairs (TSO 4963?).

It is one of the badly faded maroon ones but the inside is good.

You may also notice we had only 1 set to clean. There was a weed killing train so that uses platform 1 to go up and down. Rake 2 was way up the north siding and so not cleaned.

Washing outside were David, Tim and Peter, with Paul out of site.

I managed to catch the camera shy Roger C, and Val inside.

Rich and myself then went down to the DMU.

The DMU is quite popular amongst the cleaning team so we were very disappointed to learn it is up for sale because of a shortage of volunteers to maintain it.

The rest of the team today was Greg, Kath, Lynn, Steve and new recruit John S.

  1. Good work all.
To answer the question in the first sentence, 5023 has taken the place of 4763 in Rake 1 (as an aside, 4963 still exists, and is at the Bodmin Railway).
It’s a shame the DMU may be leaving, although the reasons are understandable. Hopefully it will find a good home somewhere.

  2. Jon Bribie Island Qld. "Land of OZ" - interesting blog. Agree that the loss of the DMU though hopefully an olde GWR railcar can find a home on the GWr where the concept resulted in motorised transport in the UK pre-war (#2). Keep up the excellent work boys n girls, still one of the best blogs in preservation too.
