Wednesday 7th - Success

We use WhatsApp to keep in touch across the metalwork team, before we arrived at Winchcombe we knew we would be 3 of the team down, however our reduced number did not slow progress. You may remember last week we had major problems with a doorfit on 13326. Trevor from the doorfit team arrived and a plan was agreed.

The first hole was drilled and a temporary bolt fitted .....

We fit thick steel blocks to attach the hinges to, The centre hinge is anchored so now we aligned the bottom hinge and here Trevor is tapping a hole into the block behind the outer skin, the vertical Z section forms the line from top to bottom.

With all three hinges anchored it was now time to slam the door, being at the other end of the workshop I heard that familiar but reassuring bang as the door closed perfectly ......

Steve is keeping a safe distance but is pointing out the welding flash, I was attaching a number of plates and brackets.

The smile of success.

...... Down in the barn John H. is very busy with winter maintenance, its all go as March 2nd is not far away.

Still in the barn, we had just had a delivery of steel section for the next phase on 1675.Four of us provided the muscle, watch this space.

Simon is still hard at it in the servery, with still much to do.

David and Tom are busy in the 1675 saloon, again there is much to do.

Moving back through the works ..... Ken is still working hard with the corridor connectors for 13326

The final visit for today was of course to the upholstery department, John is working on Dean Forest Railway seats which need to be finished for the beginning of March ......

....... with Eve, Jenny,Laura and Helen all going flat out.

It was such a busy day most of us were a bit delayed in going home, but thats the GWSR for you, we love what we do.

Many thanks to Gerry for his fine photos.
