Tuesday 5th - Rapidly coming together

Just eight in on another wet day, but more good progress on the three projects being worked on.

Inside the seating compartment on board RBr 1675, Dave (taking a break from his usual Wednesday attendance) was working on the interior panelling, fitting one of the side pieces.

All the oak interior will really glow when 3-4 coats of varnish have been applied.

Dave finishes off the next side piece with this wonderful multi-sanding machine.

Robert well into the making of another doorway threshold for 1675.

There are two door back panels on the trestles, one varnished, the other now receiving its first coat by Keith. I think one is for SK 25488, the other for 1675.

Meanwhile Ainsley is mounting a back panel on the Malvern side of 1675.

The various doors are now coming together with the back panelling and bases rapidly going on.

The next quarter door down looking complete.

Another quarter door boot made by Robert and ready for fitting.

A very different door being overhauled, this one from FK 13326 in the Barn.

Moving on to the GW Tool Van 92, Maurice is back painting the ceiling, which I believe he completed today.

Stu commented on the substantial ceiling fittings. Bearing in mind the age of the Tool Van, these would have held the gas lighting.

Maurice returned to some earlier work, tidying up the paintwork under the roof edge where it had been sealed.

Finally on to SK 25488, where lining out was very much the main theme of the day, with Pam, Stu and I very much committed to getting as much done as possible. While I got the top line on the Cotswold side set up for the yellow band   .......................

Stu set up the tape on the Malvern side for the bottom line black band ...............

.............. and then progressed to the Cotswold side to do the same again.

Keith did a number of finishing-off jobs on both ends. The lamp brackets were top coated, the electric connector cables were coated in matt black, and .....................

.......... the copper pins cleaned with sandpaper.

Pam got going with the yellow band ......

............. and was soon progressing along the Cotswold side, while Stu had completed the bottom black band on the Malvern side and was now starting this side. The yellow band would be having a second coat a little later on, while when completed the tape for the two black bands was removed almost immediately Stu had finished.

There was a section of top yellow band remaining on the Malvern side which I taped up, as well as making a start on the top black band. Pam painted both ...................

...................... and then moved on to some extra top coating on the back of one of the doors on the Cotswold side.

The Cotswold side looking good. So, what's left here? The number and end lettering, the top black band, and some misc bits to paint, and some snagging here and there. Then we're into varnishing.

The final job of the day. Get that top tape off the Malvern side. Not quite the elegant "grass skirt" effect Alex creates when lining out. My efforts produce just a tangled mass!
