Tuesday 2nd - Back to normal, well almost

With the successful summer Diesel Gala over there was a lot to dismantle and put away following our 3-day opening - the contents of the shop and the tables, the viewing area stakes and chains, direction arrows and other signage, and the various display boards. That lot kept me busy for much of the day. We had another visit by Tony Kerrison, this time with "the Boss" and another load of towels and sheets/blankets, and some goodies for the Mess Room which went down very well - thank you again both for your very kind gesture.

Beginning today with the RBr, the Door Team have begun taking off some of the doors. Ben has to cut through the rusted in spindle on the Cotswold side kitchen door - when was this last opened?!

Two doors in the shop awaiting attention, the kitchen door on the right being successfully removed.

Richard completed the window top coating on the Cotswold side of 16221 that Alex had started on Sunday.

On the Malvern side it was still a lot of preparation with the doorways, with Phil on the south end, Alan on the First Class central door (sorry no photo) ...................

............ and Ian on the north end. As before it's a case of cleaning up the door liners and adding filler or paintable sealant as appropriate.

Richard's first job was actually top coating a replacement quarterlight for TSO 4986 in the Main Rake - the original fell apart and has been temporarily replaced with a piece of plyboard. Richard later added a second coat and it is now ready for the Friday Maintenance Team to install.

He also top coated in Maroon two quarterlights for 16221.

On the other side of the yard Alex continues cleaning up the inner framing on the Macaw bogie bolster.

Four of the very heavy supports from the Macaw were brought over by Keith and cleaned up with a powered brush. They were then primed.

Moving on to progress with the "Cheltenham High Street" Toad, Maurice top coats the two iron roof supports that had been taken off.

Later on Maurice top coated more of the roof supports and other parts that had been primed last week.

The grab rails have been given a fresh coat of white.

New wood sections for the roof have been prepared by Robert and await fitting.

Robert and Richard trial fit the new wood sections.

Finally, David D. from the Wednesday Woodwork Team was in today and working inside 16221. Unfortunately I missed a photo of him (sorry David!). However he has made the above on commission for Robert, who proudly let me photograph it. What a lovely commemorative stand!

  1. I've been trying to work out how the grab rails on the Toad are assembled. It's got me totally stumped! Does it involve a combination of RH and LH threaded pipes and fittings?
