A Fresh Look

Hello, and welcome to the new blog and website for the Carriage & Wagon Department on the GWSR. In recent weeks Peter Bennett has had to immediately relinquish his role as Head of Department and also our ‘blogger’ following a diagnosis of prostate cancer. I am sure you will join with us in thanking him for his sterling work in both roles, but more importantly in sending our very best wishes to him and his family whilst he undergoes investigation and treatment. Hence we have a new blog, with a new look and new bloggers.

As we were starting afresh we took the opportunity to rethink how we do it, and also try and make it more than just a blog; to be a bit of a window to C&W matters generally on our railway. We'll have some pages on our facilities themselves and what we're capable of doing, as well as an overview of what vehicles we're working on. These pages are very much a work in progress, the main priority being to get a blog up and running again.

We also now have a blogging team rather than one individual. Generally, the plan is to go back to each working day having its own post, with Alex covering Saturdays, Dave doing Tuesdays, and Thursdays for now, and Nick reporting on Wednesdays. We'll also have some contributions from Roger on the cleaning team and hopefully something from the maintenance side of things too.

So, have a look, let us know what you think of the new site (does everything work, is it easily navigable etc.?) in the comments. There's a subscribe button at the top so you get an email every time a new post is published, the usual links are on the left including a link to the old blog, which will remain as a fantastic archive of all our work from 2011 to 2020 and we'll draw attention to any new pages we add or update as and when we get to it.

We look forward to sharing our activities with you again,

Your new blogging team
