Meet The Teams - Some Specific Engineering (Machining, Endology, Pipework and Windows)
This particular Meet The Teams post brings in two members of Carriage and Wagon who have not been featured in the related Metalwork and Mechanical posts and who's names are very much synonymous with the four aspects listed in the title. Members of the other two teams are of course involved with these particular jobs as the need arises.
A selection of photos displays the various aspects of the four skills.
John
Ken
**********************************
Machining - repairs and fettling new items
John spends a lot of time fettling new and replacement items and making repairs, mainly using the milling machine, lathe, power drill and power saw.
Endology - coach ends
Ken is usually the member of staff associated with the dismantling and rebuilding of coach corridor connections and the communication cord mechanism, which we nickname Endology. It can also include the working of the heavy sliding doors, and refitting the chequerplate and access steps.
Pipework - heating, vacuum and tank filling systems
Windows
Window work is often associated with Tony B, specifically stripping frames back down to bare metal and thoroughly cleaning, while more recently (2023-25) all the windows for RBr 1675 and SO 4798 have been removed, cleaned up and refitted by the Metalwork Team, specifically Gerry, Rex and Bryan.
However prior to this, over the years Ken has often been associated with window dismantling, cleaning and reinstating.
