Tuesday 1st - Coming home

Generally a quiet day with just seven of us in, and Bob M. turning up later after his guard duty on Train 1.

Weather wise the day got off to a good start, so Richard took the opportunity to top coat the prepared panel on the Model Railway coach. The next stage will be to line this out when we get the chance.

As can be imagined there was a lot of concentration on Tool Van 4. Robert begins working on plank replacement, marking out where to begin cutting out defective planks.

It's noisy but it does the job very nicely.

Later in the day, the repairs are well underway.

Richard followed up his painting on the Model Railway coach, and swapped his brush for a scraper, raking out old filler that had been put in between the planks.

Ian was cleaning up the headstock at the north end of the van.

Alex worked on more removal of the old paint, .......

..................... later sealing up cracks and splits in the cleaned up planking.

Both Keith and I took on some secondary vacuuming, removing dust from last weeks major paint stripping sessions from the trestles, shelves, tops of bins and cupboards, and the various conduits along the walls.

The various trestle jobs have been piling up, but over the past week they have been gradually completed by myself so that Keith had manageable levels when he turned. The new steps for Tool Van 4 receive their top coat.

Alan has worked hard on the compartment doors from TK 24006. They all look really good with two coats of varnish, especially when all the hard work sanding has removed almost all the blemishes.

One of the inserts being made and fitted between the tank and stanchions by Chris. These will be removed for priming and painting.

The LMS brake van returns home from the Welland Steam Rally, held at Upton-on-Severn, and once again being transported by Allelys.

Manoeuvering into position ready for unloading.

A team of us then pushed the van further into the siding to enable the Allelys crew to dismantle the loading/unloading rails.

The Welland Steam Rally Facebook site has a photo of the van and a write-up on it, and another showing the loco from the Foxfield Railway with the van in tow.
