Weds 8th / Thurs 9th - Another leap forward

Many thanks again to Gerry for Wednesday's photos.

The first skirt section in place and ready for tack welding.

Thursday

On to Thursday and thank goodness for another dry day.

The Maintenance Gang were out in force again, with Dennis and Paul continuing the cleaning on the Cotswold side of the Main Rake. The Indoor Gang, Roger, Alan and Geoff, were somewhere in one of the rakes doing repairs.

For the Painting and Prep Team it was back to what repairs we could do on the Cotswold side in the time available (the rake will be swapped to Platform 2, probably at the weekend). Phil continued the repairs to RBr 1672.

Jeff worked on the frame and sides for the door on TSO 4986 that Robert had free'd up on Tuesday. The problem with painting door edges and frames when the coach is outside is getting them dry by the time we have to close up for the day. I eventually closed and locked this door just before I went home at gone 5 p.m.

Roger and Dennis were going along the rake added a smeer of grease to the metal edges of the doors to assist with their easy opening and closing.

The Richards were underneath RBr 1672 working on the water supply.

Being mainly outside I missed most of the Metalwork Team's efforts, but took this shot showing two skirt sections now in place on 1675.

I did however catch Gerry working on this Cotswold side cantrail section.

It was just Dave working on FK 13326's bodywork today, using a hot air gun to remove the remains of one of the badly flaking areas on the Cotswold side. All three affected between-window panels will be cleared from the lower line to the gutter.

On Tuesday I had removed all the grab handles, except on the Cotswold side for the doorway being used by the Upholstery Team, and this one at the north end where the captive nuts had come loose. This corner section and door need some serious work as can be seen from the chalked notice. The corner section is rusted and holed up to the gutter.

The buckeye and drawbar refurbishment on CK 16221 continues with Ian and Stu. The drawhook has been removed so that Stu can relocate the tailpin (seen cleaned and painted in Wednesday's photos).

Job completed. Ian, Stu and Richard wheel the south bogie back under the CK.

The reinstated drawhook and buckeye at the north end. The other bogie will now be wheeled back under.

The giant securing nut for the north end tailpin.

A text request came to me from Alex to have this hinge mount at the south end of the Mogo painted in GW Grey. This will enable the last hinge at this end to be refitted on Saturday.

The first part-completed battery box in the Paintshop. No priming yet though.

Some of Upholstery's repair work for FK 13326.

Comments

  1. All very well done. I noticed that on some windows, the 'No Smoking' triangular signs are showing that some folks can't leave things alone and have started removing bits. We used to have this problem on BR. There, sadly, is no cure for the mindless vandalism that sometimes happens.
    Regards, Paul.
