Thursday 6th - Busy day, small posting
A very busy day for the group attending as shutdown activities are beginning to increase. It certainly was for me with still a fair bit to do on BSK 34929, hence I couldn't get round to everybody. So, apologies for the short posting today with the bias on 34929, as I was there working both in and on it, so very handy for photos, and TK 24006 which is nearby.
Alan and Geoff removed one of the recently reinstated corridor windows in TK 24006 to apply new sealant. Unfortunately the cold frosty morning turned into a cold very wet day, so the corridor floor had a wash as well.
Meanwhile Dave has been able to find some suitable frosted glass for the substitute toilet compartment window.
He has also been able to find another window in our deep storage. We have a TIG welder so will be able to reattach the crosspiece.
Jeff took on the varnishing mantle today, beginning with 24006's access doors.
On to 34929, Phil spent much of the day adding more varnish where required. More is required on the back of three doors, and the small side panels either side of Door 6 are still bare!
The skirting in the north vestibule was somewhat marked, so Phil repainted both sides.
The corridor looking north from the guards compartment is now looking very nice.
I spent a lot of time finishing off the guards compartment, though I think the north wall needs another top coat of the Exec Lt Grey as the minor hole filling and patch painting hasn't come out very well. The seat awaits refitting and the door back needs more varnish, but otherwise overall it all looks so much better. The second top coat was applied to Door 6 and surrounding panels, and this last section is now ready for lining out. I noticed the yellow section hasn't been done for the top line on the guards door.
Hello, when did these arrive? I guess two seats from one of the diesels for new covers.
34929 is getting ever closer to being finished. Well done on this long project.

A fine blog Dave... 34929 has been one heck of a project....but looks so good.
ReplyDeleteThank you both. We are nearly there. One more week and it leaves the Paintshop.
