Tuesday 8th - Just the six of us

The first Tuesday after Lockdown II had just 6 of us attending with more of the team now having to stay away, but we still made some very good progress.

Beginning with RMB 1808, it's rather a relief to know that we don't have the deadline now to get this finished. Not that we are going to hang about as we have lots to do on the BSK and CK, the former now planned to be the next in the Paintshop.

With the Malvern side centre door now back in place and fully functional, and the missing capping strip reattached, we can get on with the remaining prep work and painting here.

Richard applied filler to the screw holes in the capping strip and then the edges to privide a firm seal. When sanded this was later undercoated in the relevant colours.

By the end of the day, filler had been applied to the door sides where required and sanded, and the line positions on the door taped up ready for underoating.

The Malvern side north end after Alex had added the brown top coat on Saturday. The tape will be removed and remaining lining out done next Saturday, which will give plenty of time for the new paint to harden off.

As happened with Alex on Saturday, it was my turn to forget to take a photo. This was of the south end door on the Cotswold side, which needed some tidying up of the paintwork after the lock and handle had been changed.

While all this was going on with the outside, inside 1808 Russ was repainting the south end compartment floor. The north end will follow.

What with repainted floors and all the repainting in the counter area now completed, 1808 will soon look very smart internally.

Bob primed the new section of ceiling in the centre vestibule. Undercoating will follow on Thursday, unless it was done today (Weds 9th) as I type this.

Tea break - well I did say it was quiet day. Dave (in Upholstery) was outside and Russ was still floor painting.

Ainsley spent the day in the Workshop working on the BSK.

Remaining sections of unpainted gutter on the Cotswold side were given the base coat of undercoat Light Grey.

It was then on to yet another window to overpaint the Cream undercoat with Madder.

Bob did a number of jobs throughout the day, including attaching the top internal panel to the door from the south end of 1808.

More new skirting boards for BSK 34929 receiving a coat of Black gloss.

Bar the new battery box, we've more or less completed all the items recently left on the trestles.

Last, but definitely not least and to prove it I have included both photos taken, is Dave working on another large seat cushion. The giant needle is in action again as he sews on the thick undercanvas.

That needle must be a foot in length and as expected it has a huge eye, very necessary for the thick cord that is used.
