Thursday 10th - Feeling a bit more like the new normal

After the quiet Tuesday, a reasonable number in today with plenty going on, including a C&W Management Meeting in the afternoon. Apologies to those I didn't capture.

Beginning in the Barn, RMB 1876 had been brought in to enable our Electrics Team, Richards I and II, to change the batteries and battery charger, not something you want to do outside on a miserable damp day.

Richard II with the new charging unit and batteries for the Malvern side of 1876.

After much scrabbling about underneath (my photo taken then wasn't successful), Richard I emerges on the Cotswold side with a new length of cable. The new batteries have already been placed in the box.

While in the Barn, a quick step outside to view GWR "Mink A" box van 124589 which will soon be coming in for restoration. Looking inside was pretty grim with everything damp from the various leaks. It will be good to get this rebuilt and available for Galas again.

Often photos aren't taken because those you are looking for have disappeared somewhere around the Works or outside in the Yard. However I found Tony and Alan working on more of the windows for TSO 4867. Tony tightens one of the grub screws with Alan inside firmly gripping the receptacle - one of many holding the top part of the inner frame. Sealant had already been put around the edge of the large pane.

In the Workshop Dave H. is coating the inner faces of three more of the corridor heating pipe covers for CK 16223. Having been stored in the leaking Mink van they were rusty and had needed a good sanding on both sides. The outer corridor sides will receive a coating of Silver Hammerite.

In the Woodwork/Doors shop Craig is busy rebuilding the door for the Malvern side south end of RMB 1808. The original door was beyond repair with a much corroded skin, hence the need to replace it with one of our aluminium spares.

In the Paintshop Phil has lightly sanded the newly undercoated Malvern side centre door on 1808, and is now touching up the undercoat as required.

By the end of the day the first top coat had been added.

Also done on this side was the removal of the line tape ready for the final bit of lining out in two days time.

While this was going on, and in between taking photos, on the Cotswold side one of my jobs was cleaning up more door locks and striker plates, along with some final bits of touching up of the adjacent door and frame paintwork.

Back to the Workshop to find that Ainsley had moved round to the Malvern side of BSK 34929 to begin repainting these windows in Undercoat Madder.

At the north end of the coach Jeff was undercoating the door window before moving on to the adjacent window frame.

It's good to see some progress again with the external painting on 34929.
