Tuesday 5th - Still painting planks

Many thanks to Paul E for all the extra photos.

More progress with SO 4798 with Richard adding a second top coat to the Cotswold side window frames.

While flatting the cream panel at the north end of the Cotswold side Ainsley noticed that the area next to the capping strip needed more filler. This was carefully added and then sanded down. Several more small areas were found and similarly treated - annoying at this late stage but at least there were identified now and not at an even later stage.

Richard happily acknowledges that the last window frame has been done, which in effect completes the second top coating on the Cotswold side.

The next job is to finish off the door edges and frames that remain in undercoat.

Keith top coats the outside of the repaired cover for the Cotswold side battery box. That edge needs priming and painting.

I noticed that the Malvern side cover, very nicely repaired by Derek, is back on the box. I can see that getting missed so it must be removed and put on the trestles for painting.

[Photo : Paul]  I was photo'd doing the same at the south end.

Phil was back with the toilet compartments rebuilding. Here he is working inside the Malvern side access cupboard.

Keith adds more Silver Hammerite to the heating pipes for the GW Inspection Saloon.

Lots of progress with the Mink D van too, with Maurice adding the second top coat of GW Grey on the Cotswold side.

[Photo : Paul]  Keith helped out with priming and undercoating more of the short planks. All these are for the doors. There are 8 doors, each having 10 planks, so 80 will be required.

Paul primes one of the long planks. All these will be cut into short planks.

[Photo : Paul]  All these are in undercoat.

The Mink D at the end of the day. This van will be quite something when completed.

Time for a quick vac along the Malvern side of the Paintshop following the flatting work.

  1. 4798 is looking wonderful. And the GW saloon is getting the attention too. The Mink D is looking closer to completion also. Well done to you all for your hard and wonderful work.
    Regards, Paul.
