Tuesday 6th - Planks, planks, and even more planks
Another very cold day with some short flurries of snow. Nothing of course when compared with the north of England and Scotland. It did perk up later with a nice spell of sunshine.
A quick catch-up of a few items from Saturday's efforts. Above the first DMU seat back for the NYMR contract.
I missed getting a photo of Simon on Saturday, but his rebuild of the toilet compartments in RMB 1876 are coming along well. The new piece of veneer shows up well.
On to today's activities. With the plan to apply the first coat of varnish to the Cotswold side of 1876 on Saturday, we need to ensure that any paint snagging has been completed. Richard adds gold paint to a small section of the top line on the edge of one of the doors and the door frame which had been missed when the main lining out was done.
[Photo : Paul E] I made a start on the filling required on the north end at the top of the Cotswold side of the connection. There's quite a bit to do in this location.
On the Malvern side the tops of two of the doorframes had been missed during the top coating. Richard tackles the first one.
Ken appeared and needed to get on with the rebuild of the north corridor connection, so it was essential to give him priority. The filling work can be resumed on another day.
With the metal U frame now secured to the connection wood sections, Ken begins reinstating the rain cover.
Inside 1876 David continues the ceiling repairs in the south compartment where the tubular lighting was replaced with the traditional flying saucer lights. He managed to complete the filling and sanding, and gave the affected areas a coat of white undercoat.
Ken had made good progress with the corridor connection.
Besides taking photos for the blog and doing some logistical work, I did several small jobs which included adding wood dye to part of a door base and some beading for 1876. These can now be varnished.
His final job was to black gloss the part of the north end that will have the large passcom system pipe running over it when that is reinstated.
[Photo : Paul E] To complete my day I went round a number of places on the Malvern side south door frame and the connection door frame with paintable sealant.
The Mink D rebuild comes along rapidly. Maurice primes more cleaned up parts.
And then it's back to those planks.
Top coating in GW Grey.
Chamfering the one edge.
A general light sand and brush.

So mainly the 1876 and Mink D show then! Well both are coming along very well, and a tribute to the skills of all who worked on them, especially in these sub zero days.
