Weds 12th / Thurs 13th - A bit of a clear up

Wednesday

Thanks are again due to Gerry for taking the day's photos. Hopefully I've got the giste of what is happening correct.

Beginning with more progress with RMB 1876, Simon is continuing his rebuild of the toilet compartments.

Trevor was working on the rebuild of the Malvern side south doorframe on 1876.

Ainsley was doing the same with the north end frame, the one section of which literally fell apart. Stu was requested to assist.

Stu got Ben involved with the Cotswold side south end door and frame which, although basically fixed, still had a slight problem with the door not fully closing. The solution was to remove some of the threshold, which then enabled the door to close completely with the handle correctly horizontal.

Unfortunately the slamming caused the reused door back panel to be damaged and a new one will need to be made.

In Upholstery Laura, Eve, (and Chris) were busy recreating arm rests in the Snapdragon moquette for SO 4798.

In the background Ceri looks to be working with Bournemouth Blue moquette - the first bit of re-covered DMU seating for the NYMR contract?

Rod working in the Malvern side toilet compartment in 4798. This must now be ready for two coats of varnish.

Ken at the south end of BSK 35308, where the corridor connection has been taken off to enable metalwork repairs.

Photo taken by me on Thursday showing some of the corrosion behind the connection.

The weed spraying wagon is really beginning to look the part. More of the long square sectioned bars are being cut for the removable side panels.

Nick welds up the next removable section for the side wall.

More welding required on the Cotswold side (not sure what this was for).

The removable sections in place. Ian is on board - refitting the planking that has been coated in non-slip floor paint?

Thursday

Missing Jeff today, but good to have both Martin and Phil in. Martin completed the initial cream top coating on the Cotswold side of 1876. I think this just leaves the south end door to top coat.

Phil began top coating the south end, including painting Matt Black on the new rain cover. We may need a second coat on the latter.

Phil then progressed with the Gloss Black down the left side of the connection, which I completed when Phil had to leave for the day.

Stu worked on the Malvern side north end door frame, both fitting a new section of liner and the door guide within that. After the necessary adjustments the door now closes perfectly and we can catch up with the painting on the frame, door and end panel.

Paul and Phil had a major clear out of the coach, which had become very much a dumping ground as all the various bits were taken down, everything from the internal doors and door tracks to toilet compartment bits. Everything was covered in dust, but a major clean up is now underway. We still need to paint the ceilings, but thankfully we have loads of curtains and blankets with which to cover the seating. New marmoleum will be needed along the through route, as well of course in the toilet compartments when rebuilt, and the vestibules. So there is still a lot to do inside.

Toilet compartment bits from 1876 to clean up and repaint or revarnish accordingly. The bits previously being done are in fact from SO 4798.

Bob continues the clean up of the heating pipe covers from SO 4798.

I took on the repainting in Silver Hammerite. Still a lot to do yet.

Inside 4798 Roger and Alan are marking up various bits of beading so that they won't stray before being mounted in place.

Geoff meanwhile is sweeping through the coach. As with 1876, 4798 is also having a big tidy up.

Removing adhesive square pads, no doubt used for mounting Christmas decorations.

Dave and Phil are stripping down the heating pipe cover supports from TSO 4768, a future restoration, otherwise known as the Quainton Road coach.

D6948 drifts into Platform 2 to retrieve Rake 2 and return it to Toddington.

As often happens prior to one of our infamous storms, we have a gorgeous day. The Indoor Gang make the most of it and enjoy lunch on the station. I did the same further along.
