Weds 1st / Thurs 2nd - It missed us thankfully

Back to a two-day posting, with Gerry taking the photos on Wednesday, plus a further three on Thursday. Many thanks as always Gerry.

Wednesday

Beginning with Ben sorting out a hinge on one of RBr 1675's doors.

Having already attended on Tuesday, Ainsley, our Door Team Head, was back in.

Rod was fixing the lower part of the capping strip on the Cotswold side kichen double doorway.

More internal window frame building by David and Geoff on the Cotswold side of 1675.

Fixing more oak panelling above one of the Malvern side windows.

Phil still working hard with the internal electrics, wiring up one of the kitchen lights.

Rex priming the metal panelling prior to fitting the next window.

More good progress with the south end of FK 13326 with the old panelling gradually being stripped off.

Chris hunting for the right size drill bit.

Thursday

Beginning with more repairs to the 3rd Rake, this time with Alan and Roger replacing a door pull (forgot to check which coach this was - probably SK 24949).

It was raining lightly but worth getting a bit wet to watch 2807 coming by with the Toddington train.

The old Army RBr with the windows now cleaned of green algae and generally looking so much better in grey. Well done Dave!

Storm what's-his-name thankfully didn't hit us, but even so the Cotswold escarpment was covered in low cloud and still looked magical even in the rain.

Walking back through the Barn to take a photo of the north end of 13326 with one of the half end panels now in place.

In the Workshop Gerry drills more holes ready for rivetting this window frame, the last one in the seating section of 1675.

On now to the serving counter and kitchen section. With this frame clamped securely in place Rex uses the powerful air rivetter.

Drilling the next hole ready for rivetting.

Paul pauses for a photo on his way to resupplying the PPE shelf in the Workshop store.

The weather put a stop to Dave's outside activities, so back to another compartment door from TK 24006. There can't be many left to sand and revarnish.

The final main section on Tool Van 92 receives its second top coat. After this it's side doors for more top coating, along with the main steps and some grab handles and lamp brackets, and not forgetting the new skylights.

Chris replaces more rotten bits of roof planking before the new canvas is put on.

The undercoating of SK 25488 is proceeding apace now. Phil coats the edges of the Malvern side north door.

Bob begins the last of the lower main panels.

Phil assists Bob in retrieving one of the larger sets of steps (a good caption for this could be,"Quick Bob, before anyone spots us!") ........................

................... so that he can get on with the cream undercoating on the central panels on the Cotswold side. By the time I took the photo Bob had almost completed all this. Derek primes another length of planking ready for more repairs on the Monster Van.

[Photo : Gerry]  Phil with more door edges, this time the Malvern side south door. Door edges and doorways often get left to last.

Most of the windows have been undercoated. Phil tackles one of the remaining unpainted ones.

[Photo : Gerry]  Gerry captured me taking a quick pause while working on the south corridor connection. Having painted the top of the connection in matt black, the back plate was given a further clean with thinners before apply the red oxide.

Later on with the outer side of the bellows rubber blacked and the end plate in dark grey undercoat.

There's something special about taking photos of steam locos in the rain, which was still falling but thankfully only lightly.
