Wednesday 16th - Down came the Rain

We knew from the forecast that it would rain BUT not like that. Naturally we were thinking of our race going customers, I don't think it it could have been any worse. Most of us were working indoors and just listened to the rain bouncing off the roof.

To start, P&O appeared through the mist hauling the first train of the day, full of dry racegoers to Cheltenham. Perhaps it was drier in the bar?

First mention of the day, here is our new carpenter recruit 'Tom'. He may of been mentioned before, but its the first time we have seen him on one of our Wednesdays.

He is somewhat younger than most of us, I would like to take this opportunity in welcoming him onboard.

Colin and Geoff in the Carpenters shop, they assured me they were precision cutting this former section of a tree.

Trevor is making some bespoke sections for a door frame.

Ainsley found an empty corner in the paintshop, for more door work.

Another view of a very clean and tidy upholstery shop.

A bit later I did see John carrying out an in house repair to the sewing machine, but failed to ask him what was wrong ...... he fixed it.

1675, you will get used to that number as time goes on, Here Gerry is doing what the carpenters don't do ...... ripping up the corridor floor. This will make life much easier for replacing cross floor supports from above as well as below. 1675 is at present off its bogies and at shoulder height.

Rex and Bryan are removing floor timbers, and working out the position for cross floor supports and further strengthening for new kitchen units.

Meanwhile at ground level, Phil and myself were removing some redundant fixtures, the old refrigeration unit was particularly stubborn and extremely heavy .......

So with careful use of the 'Gas Axe' and the help of gravity it was removed. New equipment will not need this rather antiquated piece of machinery. It has made it much easier for us to replace floor bearers etc. Phil has suggested the new generator housing will probably fill the gap, so it will look the same.

Lastly our Administrator 'Eve' is working hard keeping maintenance records up to date.
