Wednesday 2nd - 'Dogfish day'

Although a lot of work was done on the Dogfishes, there was a load of other tasks.  We start with a look at upholstery.

Jenny and John are here re-covering a seat set for TSO 5042 which is in the spare rake and could be described as a Covid victim i.e. not in use, and is therefore an ideal candidate for such work.

I know Dave was in yesterdays blog, but with two days in he deserves another mention. He is working on the same set.

A bit of a close up on the carpentry team, Colin is attending to the final bits on the double doors on 34929.

There is a requirement to weld lock plates to the main structure, here Colin and Phil sorted what I think is the solution. I will weld into position next week, but great care will have to be taken to protect all surfaces from welding spatter.

Dave is fitting the toilet door in 34929.

Geoff using the big mean power saw.

Derek is cutting a radius on an internal panel for 16221.

Still with 16221, it was found the tin worm had taken up residence around the North end door frame. New sections welded in and awaiting the painters magic.

Above the same door way, the emergency cord tube was also showing its age, so Ken made a plastic insert which he is bonding into place ..... a great result.

And so the 'Dogfish' Rex is making some shims to locate the brake wheel to its cross shaft, ......

Fitted back on and working perfectly.

Bryan twisted Geoff's arm to make some new steps, although we had to use Oxy/Acetylene to heat the brackets and bend them back to shape.

Rex and Kevin fitted our access frame, ready for next week when I will descend into the dark depths to weld plates on corroded areas.

After a very warm day, you've guessed it started raining so we called it a day.
