Wednesday 5th - 'It's all go'

To start, the 'Mink' needed welding finished, so except for the first pic. I will leave it to Richard further down this blog,

This week, notes from the woodwork shop ...... Ainsley doing some fine adjustment to a door frame.

Richard is assembling some drawers, I think for their workshop.

David is doing the boring bit .... cleaning up.

Geoff with a 'G' is here with Ian selecting some seasoned timber for something special.

Dave is about to apply something to the Aluminium window frame on 16221, hence the PPE.

Another milestone in the long story of 34929, the disabled vestibule is now screeded.

Yes we do use spanners, and this cab unit was in need of some TLC, Phil in charge.

Phil and Ken benchwork, good to see Ken back.

John and Ian (driving) doing a shunt onto the Jack road.

A small job for me from S&T, these are signal gantry control rods which need to be a specific length.
A root weld is required.

From me the final bit this week, The DMU came to us a day early so Gerry jumped into the breach. We are removing the very badly damaged from corner skin, this happened probably back in BR days and received only a temporary repair.

We will be removing all tin worm affected material and replacing it. Surprisingly the interior framework is not too bad ...... more photos when its done.

And thanks to Richard for these additional photos:

Nick did a bit more strengthening on the Mink

While Paul and Richard carried on with the undercoating (now how did Richard manage to take that photo!):

(Note the replaced vacuum cylinder in red oxide, painted black by the end of the day)

As noted above, the P'way BG was shunted out, and looked great next to the 2 NYMR SKs in the same livery:

And replaced with the DMU driving car brought in by the 03.

    1. (Sadly) No John, I'm under strict instructions not to take a paint brush to it! :-)

    2. Once repaired, we (CDRL), or Alex and co can if bored ;), will be painting the front in Blue with small yellow panel as a temporary measure. The plan is for it to go green as we do the remaining bodywork patches though although as the time in C&W is limited we'll probably be doing that at Todd.
      Cheers, Tom (CDRL)

    3. Alternatively paint the whole set in blue and grey. History didn't stop in the 1960s and a blue/grey DMU would look great on diesel days.
