Meet the Teams - The Indoor Gang
A very apt title for a great gang and originated by Paul W.
The work of the Indoor Gang covers many different things, almost all inside our coaches whether during major refurbishment or simply the maintenance of our 3rd Rake at Winchcombe (as of 2020/21 this rake is now simply a collection of coaches that cannot be used because of the pandemic).
Originally the Indoor Gang comprised the two stalwarts Ron and Rog, who are currently living away and as such unable to be with us. Despite this both are still registered as C&W volunteers and will be back as soon as the opportunity arises. With the passing of time, new members have come along and the main active team now comprises six. Our newest members are Geoff and Nigel, while some of the others you will have already seen as also part of the Woodwork Team.
Beginning with our two absent members Ron and Rog, and then on to the current team.
Ron
Rog
Alan
Tony
Pat
Geoff
Phil
Finally there is Bob S. who occasionally helps the team
He is also a member of the Painting Team and helps the Mechanical ("Dirty") Gang
Their jobs are many and very varied, and include: -
- Removing and reseating window glass
- Rebuilding internal window frames
- Repairing internal panelling on walls and the backs of doors
- Reinstating ceiling panelling
- Reinstating luggage racks and repairing the netting
- Reinstating toilets and sinks, and all the associated plumbing
- Reinstating tables and small compartment shelves
- Reseating ceiling ventilation covers
- Repairing and reinstating internal lighting
- Reinstating compartment doors
- Repairing and clearing internal window drainage
Many examples of their work appear in the following sequence of photos
Occasionally there is a general call for help and the Indoor Gang dramatically increases! The luggage racks in FO 3132 "Mary" were somewhat long. While everyone holds up the rack, Pat rushes about fixing the bolts.
A well-earned break!
Come back soon Ron !!
Great to see the faces of those who do the grafting. A fine tribute.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave for the pictures, so these wonderful people are responsible for the high standard of workmanship in the carriages? Who would think that these people can do this for the line. The work they do and have done is marvelous. So good to see the faces of the teams.

Paul & Marion
Thank you Paul and Marion. They are a great team.
DeleteAlthough most of the photos will have been featured over the years in our regular reporting, it is a real pleasure to compile articles such as this. The idea came from Ian, our Head of Carriage and Wagon. Hopefully by seeing specific aspects grouped together, this will encourage anyone with related skills to join us.
We still have a number of teams to feature, and as each one is published, Alex is adding a copy to the special section at the top left of the blog header page. Then any specific one can be viewed again without having to trawl through all the other articles.
I have probably said this before. The high standards that you have set yourselves never slips or wavers. Well done to you all.
ReplyDeleteRegards, Paul.
Thank you Paul
